Nervous Electricity by Michael Hambouz (Lenticular Print Edition)
Nervous Electricity by Michael Hambouz (Lenticular Print Edition)
Michael Hambouz makes lenticular paintings painted on a wood substrate; his frequent subjects include the spines of record covers on his studio music storage shelf.
Haven Press approached Michael with the invitation to collaborate on a published edition, and they dreamt up a new technique and format for the artist's process. Paper and screen printing were introduced with the intention of translating the work from a flat printed sheet of paper to a vividly colored, three-dimensional substrate formed through the use of traditional book-arts and paper handling techniques. The work is lenticular – viewable from three angles, providing three subtly different experiences. It invites the viewer to engage with it and creates a body movement.
PROCESS: 15-Color Screen Print on Somerset Velvet, hand-folded and stitched into a lenticular form with linen thread; mounted to 4-ply museum board, cradled in custom matte white poplar shadow boxes.
